ABOUT KOH SAMUI

Koh Samui is Thailand’s 2nd largest island and home to a population of around 60,000, which up until the 1940s had no roads or vehicles and the journey from Lamai to Chaweng would involve trekking though the jungle for several hours.

The secret of a tropical paradise named Koh Samui began to spread and became a hot spot for backpackers from all over the world in the 1960s.

It was only in 1968 when the first main road of the around the island was built 52 km around the island. Since then development of Samui has increased, whist retaining its beauty and nature which has been monitored by Samui’s local government to preserve it’s special and unique charm. One can travel around the island by car in under 2 hours.

Over the last decade there has been a wide range of facilities designed for the local, expat and tourist market. Many 4 and 5 star hotels and luxury villas have arrived on Samui and international businesses have kept an eye on the island as a hotspot in Asia for the luxury market.
